CONSPIRACY THEORY

I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist. I leave that for my friend James. However, in the case of current politics, James may have a point. Conspiracy may be the only logical explanation. I’ll lay it out for you and let me know if you see it as I do.

The theory is based on one central idea: That the same sinister forces are backing both political parties. Now this is merely a theory, mind you. However, if you examine the Obama administration’s and Republican Party’s recent machinations, there may be more than a nugget of truth to this assertion. In fact, this accusation can explain much more than my provincial thinking can fathom.

Why has the Obama administration consistently caved in on issue after issue instead of fighting the good fight? Just take the extension of the Bush income tax issue. Why did they almost immediately signal that they would be willing to compromise on allowing the tax break for the wealthy to continue? It sure seems fishy to me.

This is only one example. Remember the Health Care debate? Why did “the Public Option” leave the scene almost immediately? The way it ended up, everybody in America will have to deal with insurance companies. Sure the insurance companies will make less profit on each customer, but they will have so many more customers. They win, we lose!

Do you want me to go on? Why haven’t we closed Guantanamo after over two years? Why did McCain choose Sarah Palin? I don’t think that was an accident. I believe he choose Palin because he needed to insure that he would lose. Obama was supposed to win. Then there is the TARP money. Why were the conditions written in such a way as to leave plenty of loopholes on how it would be spent?

Why are the financial institutions and large American businesses making more money than they ever have? Why are they still pulling some of the same crap with derivatives and the like? Why are there no shovel-ready jobs and unemployment is still high? Why has Obama backed away from almost every promise he has made?  Maybe, just maybe, the cloaked power that is really behind him wants it that way. Add it all up and you can truthfully say, this is not the “change you can believe in.”

Further, I am convinced that the biggest threat to this power structure is the Tea Party. They are not a controllable or coherent group. If you buy into this theory, it isn’t a very big leap to understand how an idiot like George W. Bush came to power. Keep in mind that he was initially elected by the Supreme Court. Take a look at how the conservative justices have voted and tell me they are not bought and paid for in some way.

Who are these sinister forces? There are all kinds of theories on that. But I would be surprised if they weren’t tied to BP Oil, Halliburton, and lots of international banking entities. If you imagine the worst, it just may be accurate. That’s what’s frightening. The theory may be reality, while the simplistic notions of the good we want to believe in just may be absolute fiction.

Maybe we now live in a world in which up is down, inside is out and black is really white. FOX News is not the counterpart of MSNBC. Sean Hannity is not Rachael Maddow. Rush is not the opposite of Keith. We, as citizens living in a post 1984 Orwellian world, are simply lemmings marching off to nowhere following one another into oblivion as pawns in a bigger game in which we elected a savior who couldn’t even save himself.
